And in the area of the village of Smoljanac, home to our Camping Plitvice, which is part of the Municipality of Plitvička Jezera and Lika-Senj County, you will find many lakes, rivers and beautiful blue-green waterfalls, just like the sea, but much sweeter.

Our best-known national park, Plitvice Lakes National Park, abounds in these azure-green watercourses, but you cannot swim there. That is why you can swim without worry in the Korana River, whose source lies in that very national park and which flows into the Kupa near Karlovac. At 134.2 kilometres long, this river has many spots where you can enjoy yourself. From the Great Waterfall, formed by the Korana pouring over a 78-metre-high rock face, all the way to the beautiful waterfalls in Rastoke, about 25 kilometres from our campsite, these lovely water pearls take your breath away and call you to summer. And be sure not to forget our two outdoor pools, which you can enjoy without having to leave the campsite.

And the summer season really is just around the corner. As nature awakens, so does our appetite for travel, for spending more time outdoors and for setting aside time for relaxation, holidays and summer breaks. Japanese researchers from Chiba University found that just 15 minutes of walking in a forest lowers the stress hormone cortisol by 16%, reduces blood pressure by 2% and slows the heart rate by 4% – compared with the same amount of walking in a city.

Thanks to the large share of forest in our Plitvice region, the fresh and pleasant climate is also good for health tourism. Forests cover more than a third of the Earth’s land, and in Croatia they make up 47 per cent of the land area, as pointed out by Hrvatske šume. Forests make up more than 80% of the area of Plitvice Lakes National Park, and they also make an exceptional contribution to reducing CO2 emissions, according to the Privredni.hr portal. Specifically, the forests of the Plitvice region accumulate 40,000 tonnes of carbon a year, which is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of roughly 32,000 cars.

All this matters when we consider that tourism today is responsible for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Eco-tourism, green tourism and sustainability are just some of the concepts we will increasingly associate with tourism, and you will also find sustainable tourism at our Camping Plitvice.

Some of the principles based on the well-known saying “Leave nature as you found it” are also applied at our campsite:

• Plan ahead and prepare: know the regulations and special requirements for the area you will visit.
• Travel and camp on designated surfaces.
• Dispose of waste properly; at our campsite you can also sort it according to eco rules.
• Leave things as you found them.
• Minimise campfire impact.
• Respect wildlife.
• Be considerate of other visitors.

The Plitvice Lakes area is a place where the forests are greener and the streams bluer – we have to point that out. So visit us this summer season too, and let’s enjoy together the many activities we have prepared for you right up until autumn.

International Workers’ Day

You will surely agree that there is no better way to celebrate a day off than on International Workers’ Day. We treat you to delicious food, good music, guaranteed fun, games and a hosted programme, and you treat us to your visit.

Football tournament

We organise this sports and recreational event together with the local football club, and you can see how it went in previous years at this link. You can sign up to play in the tournament or come as spectators and cheer the team on from the stands. Drinks and good music await you after the tournament.

Concerts

Cultural and entertainment events such as the concert by the band Evocacion or the tamburica quartet will create a real musical atmosphere, as they take place in our acoustic outdoor amphitheatre. The ideal entertainment under the starry sky on warm summer evenings.

Fifth birthday of Camping Plitvice

The best way to crown the summer fun is, how else, with our birthday. Everyone knows that the birthday host treats the guests, and this birthday will be no exception. A good barbecue and even better fun are guaranteed.
