This is the message of this year’s International Day for Biological Diversity and Nature Protection Day, which is marked every year on 22 May all over the world. It is an ideal opportunity to remind ourselves of and celebrate biological diversity, from the animal and plant world, ecosystems and microorganisms to, of course, people, living together, learning from one another and supporting each other. Forests, nature and water have been proven to fill us with sources of energy.

Without this healthy and vibrant ecosystem, and despite all our technological progress, we would feel the consequences immediately in our own health. So we conclude, quite logically, that the solution is in nature!
In its rich ecosystem resources, Croatia is home to many protected or endangered species of animals (brown bear, white-tailed eagle, lesser spotted eagle, black stork, griffon vulture) and plants (edelweiss, lady’s slipper orchid, Biokovo bellflower, Velebit degenia), as well as a clean sea with a large number of endemic species.
The total number of biologically diverse species in the world varies somewhere between 10 and 30 million, but every year as many as 40,000 species disappear, which ultimately affects ecological balance and stability.
UNESCO has therefore protected many natural phenomena, such as the one in Plitvice Lakes National Park, just 3 km from Camping Plitvice, in order to preserve the magic and beauty that everyone can enjoy.
Plitvice Lakes are the oldest and largest park in Croatia, and this year they are celebrating 71 years of existence. They are the best example of the coexistence of various animal and plant species, but also of beauty in everyday change. On an area of just under 300 km², of which as much as two thirds of the Park is forest and only 1% water, Plitvice Lakes are home to 1200 plant species and many animal species such as the brown bear, the wolf, the lynx, numerous species of woodpecker and forest owls. As many as 16 lakes and numerous waterfalls, rivers, sinkholes, caves and rocks, as well as the combination of the Mediterranean maritime climate with the mountain climate of Velebit, are a true example of the coexistence of rich biodiversity.
Camping Plitvice is also proud of its rich horticulture, surrounded by greenery and the scents of nature, with fresh, clean air, in a pet-friendly setting. With time spent together and sleeping under the open sky, is there a better way to celebrate this day of biodiversity than by camping? Because getting closer to nature is the very essence of camping.
