Our solutions are in nature!

This is a message of this year’s International Day for Biological Diversity and Nature Protection Day which is celebrated each May 22nd worldwide.

This is an ideal opportunity to be reminded of and celebrate biodiversity, starting from wildlife, ecosystems, microorganisms, and of course humans living in coexistence, learning from each other and supporting each other.

Forests, nature and water have been proven to fill us with wells of energy. Without this healthy and vibrant ecosystem, and despite all the technological advances, we would feel the consequences on our own health immediately. We conclude therefore quite logically; the solution is in nature!

Within its rich ecosystem Croatia hides many protected or endangered animal species (brown bear, white-tailed eagle, lesser spotted eagle, black stork, griffon vulture), and plants (edelweiss, lady’s slipper, silvery dwarf harebell, Degenia velebitica), as well as a clean sea with a large number of endemics.

The total number of biologically diverse species in the world varies somewhere in between 10 and 30 million, but every year as many as 40,000 species become extinct, ultimately affecting the ecological balance and stability.

UNESCO has therefore protected many natural phenomena, such as the one in Plitvice Lakes National Park, just 3 km from Camping Plitvice, in order to preserve the magic and beauty everyone can enjoy.

Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and the largest nature park in Croatia, and this year it is celebrating 71 years of existence. It is the best example of coexistence of various species of fauna and flora, but also the beauty in everyday changes. On an area covering slightly less than 300 km², of which as much as two thirds are the forest, and only 1% of water, in Plitvice Lakes there are 1200 plant species, and many animal species such as the brown bearwolflynx, numerous subspecies of woodpecker, forest owls, etc. As many as 16 lakes and numerous waterfalls, rivers, pits, caves, rocks, and the combination of the Mediterranean climate with the mountainous climate of Velebit stand as a true example of coexistence of rich biodiversity.

Camping Plitvice is also proud of its rich horticulture, surrounded by greenery and scents of nature, fresh clean air and in a pet friendly environment. There is no better way of celebrating this day of biodiversity than by socializing and sleeping in the open air while camping, because the essence of camping is becoming one with nature.
